French Twist Beef Pie

500g sirloin steak

2 carrots - chopped

1 onion - chopped

2 zucchinis - chopped

3 sticks celery - chopped

4 large potatoes - boiled

2 tbsp arrowroot flour

1/2 cup milk

50g butter

3 sheets "Gluten Free Bakery" Savoury Puff Pastry (IGA)

Zing! Olive Oil

French Twist Onion Spice

Field Mushroom Salt


In a slow cooker, place (in this order) onion, carrot, zucchini, celery, steak on top (no need to chop it up - it wil fall apart when it's cooked) and sprinkle with 2-3 tbsp French Twist Onion Spice + 1 tbsp Field Mushroom Salt.

Cook on LOW for 6-7 hours, until meat is falling apart. Do not add any liquid.

Mix the arrowroot flour with a small amount of water or liquid beef stock and stir through cooked meat and veggies to thicken the mixture. Add more arrowroot flour if required but only add 1 tbsp at a time and give it 10 mins in between (it can thicken up very quickly).

Boil chopped potatoes until soft, then drain water and add milk + 1 tbsp French Twist Onion Spice + butter. Mix or blend until smooth.

Line a large baking dish or tray with baking paper then line the bottom with 1 1/2 sheets puff pastry. Cook in oven for about 15 mins. 

Add meat & veg mixure. Top with mashed potato, then another 1 1/2 sheets puff pastry.

Brush pastry top with Zing! Olive Oil and sprinkle with French Twist Onion Spice. 

Cook in oven (about 180) until top is golden and crispy.

Serve with green veggies on the side. Tastes great the next day too!
